TISS Incube Foundation, hosted Dr. Navjot Sawhney, Founder of The Washing Machine project at the TISS campus for an interactive session with students on the Washing Machine Project.
Drawing from his journey of building technology-driven, socially impactful solutions, Dr. Sawhney shared how the Washing Machine Project addresses a real yet often overlooked challenge—reducing the physical and time burden of manual clothes washing, especially for women in low-income and resource-constrained communities.
The session sparked meaningful conversations around design with empathy, frugal innovation, and the role of entrepreneurship in solving grassroots problems. Students gained valuable insights into how simple ideas, when rooted in lived realities, can create scalable and dignified solutions. Dr. Sawhney also shared insights on translating contextual understanding into scalable, impact-oriented solutions.
The interaction provided students with valuable exposure to practitioner-led perspectives on inclusive innovation and reinforced the importance of integrating academic learning with real-world applications. Such engagements align with TISS Incube Foundation’s commitment to fostering practice-based learning and strengthening the social entrepreneurship ecosystem.
It was a privilege to host Dr. Sawhney at the TISS campus, where he engaged with students through an inspiring session. We are grateful for the opportunity to expose our students to such powerful examples of purpose-led innovation
