About the Venture

About the Venture: Apni Shala helps children face everyday challenges and make the most of their opportunities. Life skills such as teamwork skills, leadership abilities, self-confidence, respect for different opinions and empathy are becoming an essential part of their education. Moreover, schools are purposed to deliver an education that ensures children emerge as conscientious and reflective citizens capable of bringing change in their own lives as well in society. Apni Shala helps schools achieve this purpose. Apni Shala’s primary work is to design, deliver and administer life skill education programmes for children from low-income communities. The programmes help children to become confident, nurture healthy relationship around them and solve problems around them effectively. Additionally, we also build capacity in educational institutions to design and deliver life skills education programmes to their beneficiaries. To do so, we work with teachers, school leaders and parents as well. LifeSkills Apni Shala leverages the life skills framework provided by the World Health Organisation and design and deliver a structured curriculum aimed at building self-management, interpersonal relationships skills as well as critical thinking skills. Experiential Learning The venture works towards developing these life skills by weaving together experiences such as community work, creative hands-on projects, drama and games which are rich with opportunities to build various life skills. These mediums of experiential learning create a platform for children to question, critically analyse and express themselves in an environment free of judgement. Apni Shala has a multi stakeholder approach intended to ensure that all children are equipped with the skills they need to make a positive change in themselves and the world around them. It aims to impact confidence, communication, leadership, teamwork and empathy in children to help them recognize the best in themselves and make the most of their available resources to lead happy lives. They also are working with teachers and the schools towards advocating for life skills development work to be included in the curriculum and integrating it into everyday teaching -learning processes.
