Climate change is affecting every aspect of business and society. Energy, water, earth and mankind are closely associated with the change which has become the core of sustainability and sustainable development practices.
Steel industry being one of the most important pillars of economic development is affecting the sustainability agenda for multiple reasons ranging from mining to steel production to infrastructure. We need several initiatives to deal with the industry to align with sustainability agenda not only for economic development but also social and environmental impact.
Chhattisgarh being a leader in steel industry contributes hugely in crude steel production ofthe Country and has a critical role to play in development and deployment of innovativetechnologies to deal with the sustainability agenda in steel production.
For this purpose, the District Innovation Hub at Durg operated by TISS Incube Foundation – TIF (an incubation initiative for societal impact established by the TataInstitute of Social Sciences, Mumbai) offers to lead an initiative on ‘Green Steel’ with a larger purpose of creating economic and environmental impact while taking care of business and society.
‘CONVERSATION ON GREEN STEEL’ is a step towards bringing together the industry experts, R&D and business professionals, technology innovators, academicians and entrepreneurs to deliberate on innovative and future oriented action agenda. TISS Incube Foundation proposes to facilitate small, immediate and innovative action points to kick-start the process to establish Green Steel Solutions. This conversation is set to develop a perspective on Green Steel with the participation of the stakeholders above.

The immediate next step would be to motivate the stakeholders to participate in the Greenovation – Green Steel Challenge being organized by TISS Incube Foundation in Knowledge Partnership with earthON Foundation and Greenovation Hub with funding and mentoring opportunities. The Challenge aims to create a platform for product and process innovators in the key areas of Steel Industry such as Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy Integration, Scrap Value Chain, Financing Mechanism and Innovations for Decarbonization with specific focus on MSME sector.
